The Good Wife

good-wife1I recently had the opportunity to view the pilot for a show coming to CBS called “The Good Wife.” It stars Juliana Margulies (from “ER”) as a as a wife and mom, Alicia, who boldly assumes full responsibility for her family and re-enters the workforce after her husband’s (Chris Noth) very public sex and political corruption scandal lands him in jail. She pursues her original career as a defense attorney. Although she’s not as confident in herself as I’m sure she was years ago, she jumps in feet first!! Alicia’s main competition among the firm’s 20-something new recruits is Cary (Matt Czuchry), a recent Harvard grad who is likeable enough, but will use any means to ensure that he, not Alicia, secures the one full-time associate position that’s available. Fortunately, Alicia finds an ally in Kalinda (Archie Panjabi), the firm’s tough in-house investigator.

Gaining confidence every day, Alicia transforms herself from embarrassed politician’s scorned wife to resilient career woman, especially for the sake of providing a stable home for her children, 14-year-old Zach (Graham Phillips) and 13-year-old Grace (Makenzie Vega). For the first time in years, Alicia trades in her identity as the “good wife” and takes charge of her own destiny.

I really, really was pleasantly surprised by this show. Sei and I watched it together and when it was over we both said, “I’d watch that…”  I love law shows and really enjoyed how Alicia didn’t back down even when she was specifically told to defend a case in a certain way. She did it her way! I love Alicia’s confidence, even though she really wasn’t all the confident when she started. She’s been humiliated, there’s things about her family all over Youtube, but yet she holds her head up high and makes everyone forget all that for minute. I’m excited for the premiere on CBS, Tuesday, Sept. 22. DEFINITELY check it out and let me know what you thought about it!!

I love Julianna M. so I might like this one!! Thanks for telling me about it, I’ll definitely watch for it in the fall. I always loved her dress choices for awards shows too – she always looks so classicly beautiful. Hard for me to think of her as having kids that old though. I still think of her the way she was on ER.
