I will never be popular at parties

11

My mom plays the piano really well. Her mom, my grandma, always told her if she played the piano she would be popular at parties. When I was younger- like 6 or 7- my parents signed me up to take piano lessons. I think it was more because my older sister was taking lessons so I took lessons too. Much like gymnastics- my older sister took gymnastics so I did too- but was obviously too young to do anything more than somersaults. Anyway… getting off the subject. I took piano lessons and hated it about 96% of the time. I wanted to be able to play without the hard work. I was told you had to work hard to play well which now I know it’s a load of crap if you’re blessed with a gift like my husband who can literally hear a song on the radio and walk over to the piano and play it beautifully by ear. Yeah- he sucks. (But go buy his cd…) Anyway… wasn’t digging all the practicing and quite frankly I never saw myself as a piano player although an electric keyboard may have made me like it more. ;) So, a couple of years into it I quit. I guess I will never be “popular at parties.”  Bummer. It’s ok though because I heard my mom tell others that she knew that my brother and younger sister had “IT”- the gift of music- and that I didn’t. No worries- it didn’t hurt my feeling because I kinda already knew this because a couple of years after quitting piano I tried the guitar. That lasted approximately 2 months. You know why? Because I had an accoustic guitar and I thought that was so uncool. I wanted an electric. Hey- I was in 5th grade, what do you expect? That fact that I didn’t have an electric guitar wasn’t the only reason. I just don’t have the patience to suck. I just wanna be good. Period. And I wasn’t. Period.

So, here I am, 33 years old and I still can’t play a musical instrument. I don’t play the trumpet, the acordian, the sax… nada. My dream instrument would be to play the drums. I wanna be Watts from “Some Kind of Wonderful.”  Or maybe just hook up with a drummer. Well, not NOW obviously… I love my hot man. But back in the day a drummer would’ve been awesome- Tommy Lee,  Matt Sorum, “How you doin’?” Lars Ulrich… um, yuck.  But now I am waaaaaaaaaay off the subject. Basically this big, long post is to say I can’t play a musical instrument, wish I could and if I did it’d be the drums. Or a drum-mer.

Do you play a musical instrument? If so, what? Or if no, do you wish you played one in particular?

I used to be able to play the recorder. Does that count?? :) I’ve always thought it would be way cool to play the violin. I love the sounds they make & think it would awesome to rock out Charlie Daniels style. LOL LOL LOL

I’ve played the piano ever since I can remember.

But ever since I was a little kid, I’ve LOVED Elvis and wanted to play the guitar. I even got one for Christmas when I was 12ish and it was awesome and blue, but never pursued it. Sad face.

However, when I see a man playing the guitar/singing, I want to kiss his face off. HOT.

I played the flute. I was first chair in 10-11th grade. I used to sit in my room and play the hymns and other sheet music. I played with the piano music and just played the melody.

I can’t remember how to play a note now. I still know how to hold it though :)

I did try the snare drums for a bit. It was okay.

    Read Hunger Games! It’s amazing.

I took piano lessons for years, and played the flute in the band (but have no “one time, in band camp” stories).

I’ve always wanted to play the violin. In fourth grade, when our school orchestra played, and I was so envious of them. I played piano accompaniment for them, but I really just wanted to be holding that bow and putting the violin under my chin.

Musical instrument are not I’M SURE YOU WOULD BE POPULAR AT PARTIES. In fact, I would think you are the life of the party ; )

I have taken the piano for about five years and still can’t play. One day I’ll be able to play. I definitely don’t have “the gift”, but a couple of my kids do.

Piano and the drums!! Basicly if you can play the piano you can play drums. Guess you shoulda stuck to those lessons!! Kidding. But the piano is a percussion instrument and my mom bribed me that if I took piano I could play the drums. PLUS I have a wicked sense of rythm.
Oh and I dabbeld in Fench horn, when we didn’t have a section in 10th grade band.

I played the trombone in band. Surprisingly, that didn’t make me any more popular with the chicks.

I started playing the guitar this year, but I still suck at that.

We were too poor for piano lessons, but I wanted to play so much that I taught myself. I spent hours and hours at the piano and loved it throughout junior high and high school. I’m NOT gifted and I don’t play well…just enough for my own enjoyment.

All three of my kids got several years of piano lessons. Not one of them enjoyed practicing, and not one of them got very good, but that’s okay. I just wanted them to have a good foundation in music, and that DID happen! :)

I played violin as a child, and then drums and also piano. I quit all of those by 5th grade, but I wish I wouldn’t have…later on I learned that my violin teacher had told my parents that she had never had another student with such natural ability. Ooops. I’ve always been a singer. And in high school I was the drum major for marching band, and played trumpet for concert band (they needed more trumpets, so that’s where I was assigned). After high school I started playing bass, and played bass/sang in a band. I play a li’l bit o’ acoustic guitar now, but not nearly enough as I’d like to. I’m waiting until we’re out of Diaper Land to pick it back up again.

I’m sure you’re always superpopular at parties.
